Welcome to the website of the Vertical Flight Society (VFS) Southern California (SoCal) Chapter!
The Vertical Flight Society (VFS) — founded in 1943 as the American Helicopter Society, Inc. — is the world’s only international technical society for engineers, scientists and others working to advance vertical flight technology.
The VFS SoCal Chapter provides the opportunity for involvement in the society in the geographic region, from San Luis Obispo to San Diego! Our region is home to some of the most innovative vertical flight projects in the world. This is in addition to the world-leading industry and government research establishments. A key use-case for eVTOL aircraft, Los Angeles will continue to be a focal area for vertical flight in years to come.
The Chapter forms part of the VFS Western Region and sits between the successful San Franscisco Bay Area Chapter to the North and the Arizona Chapter to the East.
The Chapter promotes vertical flight activities within the region. This includes organizing local event to engage local members, through networking and technical discussions, student outreach, and community events. It brings together members of diverse backgrounds and plans to recognize local members’ achievements in the future, through awards and scholarship funds.

The Southern California chapter was founded in 2023.
